Chippewa Valley was first inhabited by the Ojibwe Indians and settled by German and Scandinavian immigrants. Today the region has a large Hmong community. The population center of the Chippewa Valley is Eau Claire. Other communities include Menomonie, Chippewa Falls, the town of Union and Altoona. The region produces cheese, apples, pumpkins, cranberries, and wine. Historic sites include Carson Park.
