Chistiye Prudy (Russian: Чи́стые пруды́), or "Clean Ponds", is a Moscow Metro station, located on the Sokolnicheskaya Line. It opened in 1935 along with the first segment of the Metro. The station initially featured a short central vestibule and two long platforms connected by a passage at the very end. This "London type" layout proved to be the reason why the station was closed during the Great Patriotic War and the platfroms fenced off with plywood and used as headquarters for the Joint Staff and PVO Air Defense. In 1971 after the station was to become a transfer point the central hall was built in up to the connecting passage, but the pylons were identically copied to prevent the station from losing its original appearance. In the centre of the new hall two escalators were installed to offer a transfer to Turgenevskaya. The pylons are coated with grey Koelga and Ufaley marble and the floor is made from black granite. In 1989 the original ceramic tiles were replaced with marble planes which compleately followed the original style In the end of the central hall is a bronze bust of Sergey Kirov, this is because since its opening and up until 1990 the station was known as Kirovskaya. The Sokolnicheskaya Line (Russian: ), formerly Kiroskvo-Frunzenskaya, was the first line of the Moscow Metro, dating back to 1935. ...
