Choke holds are very common in Judo. There are several techniques, all dealing with cutting off the blood supply to the head. The most common is the "straight choke", where the lapels are used. It is best if you use this while sitting face-to-face on top of your partner. You grasp his right lapel with your left hand and his left lapel with your right hand. Then you pull with your left hand and use the right hand to bring the lapel across the throat and push to tighten it. This takes effect in about 5 seconds. Another variation of it is if you are sitting with his back to you. Then you reach in front of your victim and grab his right lapel with your left hand and his left lapel with your right hand and pull down the right lapel while you pull his left lapel across his neck with your right hand. (Reverse if you are left-handed.) Your partner should smack you twice to signal you to release the hold before he loses conciousness. Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name. ... Probably everyone's favorite is this one: You are standing facing your opponent. Then as quick as you can, you place both hands on his shoulder and spin him around so his back is to you. This automatically places your forearms in the proper position. Assuming you are right-handed, you grasp your left elbow and place your left hand behind his head. Now you adjust your hold so your right forearm is across the left side of his neck, and you use the fingers of your left hand against the blood vessels on the right side of his neck. You now, with a little pressure using forearm and fingers, put him to sleep ergo the "sleeper hold".
