However, Wansan F.C. went into bankruptcy before joining the Korean Football League. The club was taken over by Bobae Ltd., a local alcohol manufacturer. After changing the name to Jeonbuk Buffalo F.C., the club joined the Korean Football League in 1994. The team began getting worse in play. Finally, Jeonbuk Buffalo was entrusted to the KPFL (The Korean Professional Football League) and Hyundai Motors took over Jeonbuk F.C. in 1994. Jeonbuk won the Korean FA Cup in 2000 and became the first side to win the trophy a second time with their 2003 victory. They won again in 2005.
