Gestational trophoblastic disease, or choriocarcinoma, is an aggressive, malignant, often metastatic (spreading to other organs) cancer in the uterus that begins following a pregnancy, a miscarriage, or an abortion.
In approximately one-half of cases of choriocarcinoma, the preceding factor is hydatidiform mole.
