Chris Anstey basketball career began at a young age with the Melbourne Tigers and after seeing limited game time Melbourne realised Anstey and he signed a contract with the South East Melbourne Magic to form a dominating young team along with Sam Mackinnon and Jason Smith. During his second year with the Magic, Anstey won the Most Improved Award helping to Magic to win the first championship as a franchise. After another dominating preformance with the Magic, NBA scouts began to take notice of Chris Anstey. And in 1997, Chris was selected by the Portland Trailblazers with selection number 18. However Chris never played a game for Portland as he was traded to Dallas in exchange for Kelvin Cato. During his rookie year with the Mavericks, Anstey played an important role as a bench player in which he averaged 6ppg and 4rpg. But his numbers dropped off in his solphmore year and he was then traded to Chicago. Chris began to find the form he had in his rookie year and started in 11 of his 73 games he played that year. But Chris declined to sign with the Bulls and instead went back to play in the NBL.


Anstey signed with the Victorian Giants at the start of the 2001 season and ended up winning NBL Sixth Man Award. Anstey was still developing as a player at the commence of his second season with the Victorian Giants, Anstey moved to Europe to play with Ural Great Perm. In his first season he won all kinds off awards from MVP to best import to best center. Keen to win another championship, Anstey signed with Unics Kazan. And in 2004, Unics Kazan won the FIBA Europe League Championship. After a few more season in Europe, Chris began to miss Australia and in 2005 he signed with the team that gave him the opportunity to play basketball; the Melbourne Tigers. Anstey went onto have an MVP season and led Melbourne to the NBL championship in 2006.
