Raised in Ohio, Chris Columbus started in the industry as a screenwriter with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Productions, Gremlins (1984), The Goonies (1985) and Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). He made his directorial debut with the teen comedy Adventures in Babysitting (1987). He had huge success with Home Alone (1990) starring Macaulay Culkin. His work includes the first two Harry Potter films and Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Bicentennial Man (1999).
