Charles Christopher Cox (born October 16, 1952), an American politician, has served as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since August 4, 2005. He had served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from January 3, 1989–August 2, 2005, representing the 48th District of California. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Cox earned his B.A. at USC in 1973, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He later earned his M.B.A. at Harvard Business School in 1977, and his J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1977. Cox was a lawyer, a lecturer on business administration at Harvard Business School, a businessman, and senior associate counsel to President Ronald Reagan (1986-1988) before entering the House. Cox is married to Rebecca Gernhardt (whom he met in the Reagan White House) and has three children. He is also known for chairing the committee that produced the Cox report, an indictment of Chinese espionage and criticism of the Clinton administration's handling of intelligence security. On February 2005 At a banquet for the Conservative Political Action Conference, Cox declared: "We continue to discover biological and chemical weapons -- and facilities to make them -- inside Iraq, and even more about their intended use.
