His musical career began with a skiffle group, and he joined the Thunderbirds in the mid 1960s, recording five singles for the Columbia label, without too much success. He then moved to the Immediate label and recorded another eleven singles, five of them cover versions of Rolling Stones records. His most successful was "Out of Time" which was number 1 in the UK singles chart in 1966. His next four singles were also well received. The most famous was "Handbags and Gladrags" (which was written by Mike d'Abo), later covered by Rod Stewart (and most recently by Stereophonics). Chris Farlowe who is best known for his classic sixties world wide hit “Out of Time”, is a master of soulful blues, with his live act honed to perfection after 50 years in the music business.
From November 1962 until 1965, Chris released 6 singles which had limited commercial success, although critical acclaim was widespread.
Chris then went into semi-retirement for a while, until a chance meeting with Mike Vernon produced 2 albums in 1985 and 1986.

Chris Farlowe always seemed destined for great things as a singer -- and based on the company he kept on-stage and the people he worked with in the mid-'60s, he did succeed, at least on that level.
He eventually took the name Chris Farlowe, the surname appropriated from American rock & roll vocalist Tal Farlow, and was fronting a group called the Thunderbirds, as Chris Farlowe & the Thunderbirds.
Farlowe was rescued from oblivion by his better-known contemporary (and fellow Immediate Records alumnus) Jimmy Page, appearing on the latter's Outrider album in the 1980s, which heralded a BBC appearance that brought him back to center stage in the public consciousness for the first time in two decades.
