Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham (also known as CBHS Lewisham), is a Catholic school located in Sydney, Australia, catering for boys in Years 5 - 12. The school is the oldest school of the Christian Brothers operating in Sydney. It has established itself with a fine reputation and tradition based on the development and achievement in academic, spiritual, cultural and sporting areas. The school strives to develop the talents of each boy to the best of his ability as well as fostering team spirit within each student through active participation in the school's co-curricular activities. History

The school was opened in 1891, built at a cost of £1500 with building and gymnasium to accommodate 100 students. Today, the school operates under the governance of the Trustees of the Christian Brothers, with a student population of 1100. The school is inseparable from its suburb of Lewisham, New South Wales, and from the order of Christian Brothers that has run it for over 100 years, founded by Edmund Rice which traces its beginnings back to the schools for the poor youth of Ireland in the early 19th century. Facilities

The school aims to provide facilities that ensure all students have the opportunity to study the wide range of courses available in a rapidly developing curriculum of today. In addition to the normal classrooms:

  • Six fully equipped science laboratories.
  • Music and performing arts rooms.
  • Lecture theatre, hall and weights room.
  • Two libraries - one for the primary students and one for secondary students.
  • Large undercover play space that can be converted into a basketball court, tennis court or volleyball court.

School Hours

Students are expected to be on the school premises by 8.35 a.m. each weekday and the usual finishing time is 3.13 p.m. Thursday afternoon is sports/activities and, depending on the activity, students may be dismissed from their activity at 2.35 p.m.
