Christine Glanville (October 1924 - February 1999) was a professional puppeteer and spent most of her working life involved to some degree with Gerry Anderson. Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson are most famous as the production team for several futuristic childrens television shows involving specially modified marionettes, a process called supermarionation. Their most famous production is Thunderbirds, which was produced by their production company, originally known as AP Films and later renamed Century 21...


She was born in Halifax, England but moved to London in early childhood. She became involved in the film industry during war service at Elstree Studios and studied art in her free time. After the end of the war she joined a puppet theatre company that her parents were connected with - this set her upon a course she would follow for many years. She joined AP Films in 1957 and worked an all the their productions, as well as the subsequent supermarionation shows of Anderson's Century 21 Productions. As well as being lead puppet operator, she was often responsible for the design and construction of the puppets themselves. Jeff Tracy's sons were named after the first 5 American astronauts into space via the Mercury space project, Scott Carpenter, Virgil Grissom, Alan Shepard, Gordon Cooper and John Glenn (Gerry later wrote to the surviving astronauts with signed photos of their Thunderbirds counterparts, dryly stating, "Now you know why you became so famous").
Character visualisations were handled by Sylvia Anderson and the puppets were created by Chief Puppeteer Christine Glanville and her team.
To give Scott and Virgil the appearance of being taller than the other members of their family the puppets were made with narrower waistlines.
