A feel-pulse nature prevails during these first Greek advances.

Fires break out in the Turkish quarter of the city and a massacre of civilians ensues, machine-gunned for no reason by the Greek troops. [2] Some Aydın Greeks were to be killed or robbed during the four-day control of the city by Yörük Ali's irregulars while others survived thanks to the protection of Colonel Şefik Bey, Ottoman commander of the city. The Greek quarter of the city was going to be burned in its turn during these four days. The efes hold the city for four days before retreating back to the mountains. 2. ^ According to the Report of the Inter-Allied Commission of Inquiry (May-September 1919) "A large number of Turkish men, women and children who were trying to leave the burning quarter were killed for no reason by the Greek soldiers, who were guarding all the exits that led from this quarter to the northern part of the town (...) leaving no doubt that the Greek Command and troops ran amok. A large number of Greek civilians of Aydın, hoping to escape by accompanying the troops as they retreated, were prevented from doing so by the Greek Army Command who nevetheless took along Turkish hostages who were later killed."
