The Chuo Main Line (中央本線), commonly called the ChuoLine, is one of the trunk lines of JR, the intercity rail group in Japan.
These trains are a development of the E231 series design used on other commuter lines in the Tokyo area, and will replace the aging 201 series rolling stock introduced on the line in 1981.
The oldest portion of the ChuoLine is the segment from Nakano Station to Tachikawa Station, which dates back to 1889.
Apart from the seven subway lines, which cross the city like a grid network, and the new tram serving the waterfront, there are several suburban rail services operating in the metropolitan area, among them the Loop Line (21.7 km) which connects all subway lines.
It intersects with the subway at Dainichi, Line 2's eastern terminus.
It commences at Imazato (connection to Line 5), and runs north to Midoribashi (for line 4), Shigino (for JR Gakkyu-toshi Line), Gamo-4-chome (for Line 7) and Sekime (for Line 2 and the Keihan Main Line).
