Encyclopedia > Church of Jesus Christ Elvis

The Church of Jesus Christ Elvis is a parody centered, as far as can be found, on one short webpage. Intended to amuse and not offend, the site lists several well-known excerpts from the Bible and Elvis-izes them. (Is there a better word for that?) One such quote is, "For unto you is born this day in the city of Memphis a Presley, which is Elvis the King." The page has several images of Jesus with an Elvis head pasted over Jesus', a notable one being the picture of Jesus/Elvis of the Sacred Heart.

The Oracle of the Plywood Elvis, a man-sized plank of wood unearthed in the hills of Montana, offers personal guidance to those brave enough to seek its advice, while 'Americans for Cloning Elvis' seeks signatures for a petition demanding the king's rebirth through DNA technology.
The First Church of Jesus Christ Elvis, meanwhile, is locked in a bitter theological battle for the mortal souls of Presley fans with The First Presleyterian Church of Elvis The Divine, whose motto is "Elvis has a Hunka Burnin' Love for Whomsoever Believeth in Him".
Elvis has proved especially fertile ground for conspiracy theorists, including a group that argues he was a slave of the 'Illuminati' - a quasi-Masonic outfit set up in the 18th century and bent on world domination.
