Chuwar Chira Square (in English Square of the four candles), is a public square in the centre of the city of Mahabad. At this Place Qazi Muhammad proclamated the Republic of Mahabad in 1946. Here, after the Iranian invasion in 1947, Qazi Muhammad the President, and other political leaders of the Republic of Mahabad were publicly hanged. In 2005, after the death of Schuaneh Ghaderi, the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran reported that about 50,000 people had demonstrated in the Square against the Iranian Government.
