According to an apocryphal account of Cima's background, she and her marines were specialists in dirty tricks and unsavory operations during the One Year War, and were thus denied permission to flee to Axis along with the rest of the Zeon fleet.
Whatever her motives, Cima is clearly cynical and bitter, and it soon becomes clear that Gato's distrust of her is wholly warranted.
