The University of Cincinnati College of Law has a long and distinguished history. It is the fourth oldest continually operating law school in the country and has been educating law students since 1833. Under the direction of the then dean, William Howard Taft, the Cincinnati Law School merged with the University of Cincinnati in 1896 to become the University's College of Law.
A founding member of the Association of American Law Schools, the College of Law counts among its many graduates some of the finest lawyers and public servants in our nation's history.
The University of Cincinnati College of Law has established a solid reputation as one of the premier small public law schools. It is a part of a comprehensive research institution in one of the most livable cities in the country. The College offers only the J.D. program to fewer than 400 students, creating an academic setting with a very favorable student/faculty ratio and an excellent environment for the study of law.
The University of Cincinnati College of Law, now in its 170th year of operation, boasts a 13.6:1 student/faculty ratio, one of the best in the country, and has a growing national presence with graduates from the last six years employed in 35 states. Our students are competitive at the national level. For example, the Class of 2005 is highly competitive with the 75th percentile boasting a 162 on the LSAT and a 3.72 undergraduate GPA. Finally, more than one-half of our graduates from the last ten years are practicing in areas outside of our region. Many of our students have also taken advantage of both legal and judicial externships, giving them outstanding real-world experience that they can use in any legal setting.

In 2005, the school announced the appointment of Louis Bilionis to be Dean and Nippert Professor of Law at the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
