Grand Prix Racing - the whole story (421 words)
When Formula 1 arrived in Jarama in July 1967 it was the first time Spain had hosted a Championship Grand Prix since Mike Hawthorn beat Fangio's Mercedes back in 1954.
Jarama staged a total of nine Grands Prix before the track was declared too narrow cars although it was never popular among the drivers.
That was the last Grand Prix to be staged at Jarama for it was five years before Spain was returned to the schedule, following the opening of Jerez.
