Cisco Unity is the flagship voicemail product of Cisco Systems. As with most Cisco Voice products, it was initially gained through an acquisition (Active Voice in 2000) and has since been developed internally. Unity boasts a high number of features, including Unified Messaging, advanced notification options, legacy PBX integration, text to speech, and auto attendant. Depending on hardware platform, Unity can accomdate 7,500 users per server or 250,000 total users when servers are networked together. Unity is marketted towards large enterprises, with Unity Connection aimed at medium to large business and Cisco Unity Express towards small and branch offices. A notable difference between other Cisco products such as CallManager and IPCC is that while Unity requires Media Convergence Server, it uses a standard Windows 2000 operating system. Microsoft Exchange Server is used as the message store backend, and Microsoft SQL Server to store system configuration and subscriber information.
