Charles Sturt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (827 words)
Sturt was born in British India and sent to England at the age of 5 to be educated.
Sturt later undertook a second expedition to reach the centre of Australia, but his health broke down in the extreme conditions and he was forced to abandon the attempt.
He is commemorated by the City of Charles Sturt and suburb of Sturt in Adelaide, Charles Sturt University in regional New South Wales, and the Sturt Highway from Wagga Wagga to Adelaide as well as the Sturt's desert pea, the Sturt's Desert Rose and Sturt's Stony Desert.

Captain Charles Sturt (1795-1869) was born in India in 1795.
Sturt ordered his men to load their guns ready for war, when he noticed another party of aboriginals plunge into the river from the opposite bank and swim towards the hostile natives.
Sturt proved that the west-flowing rivers eventually turned south to the ocean and there was no inland sea.
