Dominated by the large Los angeles Civic Center the neighborhood was mostly warehouses and industrial business. The residents are mostly working class immigrants. The opening of the Staples Center Arena signaled a major change with developers proposing several new retail stores and Hotels.
LosAngeles is also home to the largest populations of Japanese and Persians living in the U.S., and has one of the largest Native American populations in the country.
Residents of the unincorporated areas of LosAngeles County and various cities within the county are served by the County of LosAngeles Public Library The LAPL is funded by voter-approved bond and tax levy packages.
LosAngeles is the home of the LosAngeles Dodgers baseball team, the LosAngeles Lakers and LosAngeles Clippers men's basketball teams, the LosAngeles Sparks women's basketball team, the LosAngeles Kings NHL team, the Club Deportivo Chivas USA and LosAngeles Galaxy soccer teams, and the LosAngeles Avengers arena football team.
The LosAngeles Times (also LA Times) is a daily newspaper published in LosAngeles, California and distributed throughout the western United States.
Norman's wife, heiress and fellow Stanford alum Dorothy Buffum Chandler, became active in civic affairs and led the effort to build the LosAngeles Music Center, whose main concert hall was named the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in her honor.
This was considered ethically questionable because the Staples Center, the subject of the coverage, helped solicit advertising for the magazine for that issue and the profits were supposed to be split with the sports arena.
