Claridad ("Clarity") is a Spanish-languageweekly newspaper based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was first published in June, 1959. Claridad served as the official publication of the Pro-Independence Movement and later the Puerto Rican Socialist Party. The paper has been praised for its strong political and investigative reporting. It continues to be published weekly despite the fact that the PSP was disbanded in 1993. The review Claridade first appeared in Mindelo in 1936, at the heart of a movement for the cultural, social and political emancipation of Cape-Verdean society which was reaching maturity around this time.
The launch of the review Claridade in 1936 gave rise to the spread of a Realist aesthetic which was a response to a new social situation.

Poet Barbosa was a member of Atlantic Group, inspired by Jaime de Figueiredo, and also one the most prominent writers of magazine Claridade along with Baltazar Lopes and Manuel Lopes.
In 1935, by publishing his first book Arquipélago - he transformed the traditional dependency of metropolitan model and became the pioneer of the modern Capeverdean poetry.
In his literature career, Jorge Barbosa left many legacies with a dispersed collaboration in magazines and newspapers such as Claridade, Cabo Verde, Atlântico (órgão da Agência Geral das Colónias), Mundo Português, Aventura, Descobrimento, Presença, Movimento, Mensagem (CEI) to name a few portuguese and brasilian media entities.
