A clarinetist (sometimes also spelt clarinettist) is a musician who plays the clarinet. Many clarinetists also play the saxophone, and are therefore also saxophonists and multireedists.

Some of them are formally unconventional such as the best known, the one-movement Concerto No. 8 in the style of an operatic aria.
Better known today, however, are the four clarinet concertos, all written for the clarinet virtuoso Johann Simon Hermstedt, which have established a secure place in clarinettists' repertoire.
Among Spohr's chamber music is a series of no fewer than 36 string quartets, as well as four interesting double quartets for two string quartets.

Reconstructions of it have been recorded by Michael Tilson Thomas and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and by Maurice Peress as part of a reconstruction of the entire 1924 concert.
Whiteman's clarinettist, Ross Gorman, showed Gershwin a virtuoso maneuver by which he could produce a smooth, unbroken multi-octave glissando.
There seem to be few classically-trained clarinettists who can perform this correctly, and it is a weak spot in many recordings by symphony orchestras.
