Clarion County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania. Its county seat is Clarion6. The county was formed in 1839 from parent counties Venango Co. and Armstrong Co.


Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,577 km˛ (609 mi˛). 1,560 km˛ (602 mi˛) of it is land and 17 km˛ (7 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.07% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 41,765 people, 16,052 households, and 10,738 families residing in the county. The population density is 27/km˛ (69/mi˛). There are 19,426 housing units at an average density of 12/km˛ (32/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 98.16% White, 0.79% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 16,052 households out of which 28.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.90% are married couples living together, 8.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.10% are non-families. 26.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.95.


In the county, the population is spread out with 21.60% under the age of 18, 15.40% from 18 to 24, 25.20% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64, and 15.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 93.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.40 males.
