Almost nothing is known about Clark Terrell outside The Wrath of Khan. He had never met Admiral James T. Kirk until just before his death in 2283. Terrell's last posting would be as Captain of the Federation starship USS Reliant. Commander Pavel Chekov was assigned as his first officer. For his last assignment he and his ship were attached to the Genesis Project, searching for a suitable planet to serve as a test bed for the Genesis Device. The last planet they surveyed was Ceti Alpha V - which they believed was Ceti Alpha VI. Upon arriving at Ceti Alpha V, the ship's sensors detected energy readings on the planet surface. After receiving approval from Carol Marcus, Terrell and Chekov beamed down to see if the source could be moved from the planet. What they found was the remains of the Botany Bay, and a group of humans led by Khan Noonien Singh. Khan implanted Ceti eels into the brains of both Chekov and Terrell, which put both men under his control. Khan was then able to find out about their mission, and to hijack the Reliant for his personal war against James T. Kirk. In the fictional universe of Star Trek Dr. Carol Marcus was one of the leading molecular biologists in the Federation. ... Khan Noonien Singh is a villain in the fictional Star Trek universe. ... After the Reliant attacked and damaged the Enterprise, Kirk was able to drive the Reliant off. The Enterprise made its way to the Regula I, where Kirk, Dr. McCoy, and Lt. Saavik found Terrell and Chekov. This was part of an elaborate trap by Khan, who made it seem like he had cast off Terrell and Chekov as having outlived their usefulness to Khan. In fact, both men were planted to wait for an opportunity to kill Kirk and the others, and to see if they could find Genesis. Lieutenant Saavik is a fictional character in the Star Trek universe. ...


Eventually Kirk's party, along with Terrell and Chekov made their way to the surface of Regula. Upon finding the Genesis Device, the landing party was attacked by David Marcus and another staff member. Terrell and Chekov took advantage of the confusion, and held everyone at bay with his phaser. He then signaled Khan, who told him that he had done well. When David tried to attack him, Terrell vaporized the other project staff member with his phaser. Khan then instructed Terrell to kill Admiral Kirk.


Terrell found that he was unable to obey Khan's instructions to kill the Admiral. The pain from the implanted eel became intolerable at that point, and he collapsed to his knees. Terrell then turned the phaser on himself and committed suicide. Chekov collapsed from the pain, and the eel exited his body. Chekov would later recover from the incident.


Before his death in 2004, Winfield would make another appearance in the Star Trek universe, when he played Captain Dathon in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Darmok". The title as it appeared in most episodes opening credits. ...
