Clarks Hill is a census-designated place located in McCormick County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 376.

Geography

Clarks Hill is located at 33°39'39" North, 82°9'37" West (33.660876, _82.160302)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.3 km² (3.2 mi²). 8.3 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 376 people, 133 households, and 104 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 45.4/km² (117.5/mi²). There are 145 housing units at an average density of 17.5/km² (45.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 14.36% White, 85.64% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 133 households out of which 35.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% are married couples living together, 29.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.20.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 76.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $28,269, and the median income for a family is $29,464. Males have a median income of $26,731 versus $22,411 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $10,305. 16.3% of the population and 21.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.5% of those under the age of 18 and 50.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
