It was first built in August 31, 1923, and was originally named "Clarksburg Union School". A spring at the Sacramento River headwater The Sacramento River is the longest river in the state of California. ...
The school is "historical" and unique in it's central location and basis as the hub of this small, isolated, and rural community. Currently the school has population of 167 students, kindergarten through sixth grades. The building itself was developed in a style recognizing the influence of early missions. The generations of families who have lived in the community continue to send their children to Clarksburg, making the school unique, reminiscent of early America. There continues to be strong parent and community support of the school. In March of 2006, the Board of the River Delta Unified School District voted to turn Clarksburg Elementary School into a Junior High School, enrolling students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. (Kindergarten through sixth grades were enrolled in Bates Elementary in Courtland, California.) However as of April 2006, the community is still fighting this change.
