The Claxton Shield is an annual event held by the Australian Baseball Federation and is competed for by South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Australian Provincial.
Throughout the 90's the Shield was awarded to the winner of the Australian Baseball League(89-99) and then later from 2000-2001 to the winner of the International Baseball League of Australia. However, after the collapse of these leagues the event has reverted back to a State v State based competition and is generally played in the week leading up to the Australia Day long weekend in January. The 2007 event will be held in Perth, Western Australia and is the first time since 2002 that the Claxton Shield will be hosted away from Blacktown Olympic Park in New South Wales, Australia.
