Claypool is a town located in Kosciusko County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 311.


Geography

Claypool is located at 41°7'44" North, 85°52'51" West (41.128829, -85.880876)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 km² (0.4 mi²). 0.9 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 311 people, 112 households, and 88 families residing in the town. The population density is 333.5/km² (861.7/mi²). There are 127 housing units at an average density of 136.2/km² (351.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.75% White, 0.00% African American, 0.96% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.96% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races. 1.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 112 households out of which 41.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% are non-families. 17.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.15.


In the town the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $33,833, and the median income for a family is $34,792. Males have a median income of $29,583 versus $18,333 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,021. 9.5% of the population and 7.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.0% of those under the age of 18 and 11.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Governor Mitch Daniels and Lt. Governor Becky Skillman of Indiana hosted a groundbreaking on the site of the Louis Dreyfus Soybean Processing and Biodiesel Plant to be constructed just southwest of Claypool, Indiana.
The event was also attended by Indiana 3rd District Representative Mark Souder and other state and local government officials as well as the general public from Claypool and the Northern Indiana area.
