Developments

According to the UK Polling Report website, Cleethorpes will be Conservative target number 56 at the next General Election.

The Conservative Party advertised for candidates for the Cleethorpes constituency on Friday 25 August 2006 and the final will take place on Wednesday 8th November. As with all current Conservative selection procedures, applications were open to any member of the Conservative Party's priority list of approved candidates and to members of the standard list of approved candidates who claimed a local connection. The constituency will select by way of an 'open primary'.

The two candidates in the final will be Martin Vickers and Andrew Percy.

Vickers was the candidate in Cleethorpes in 2005 and is a councillor in Grimsby. He works as constituency agent to Edward Leigh MP and was not on the priority list.

Percy is a former candidate elsewhere in the country and is a councillor in Kingston upon Hull. He is on the priority list and may have to be replaced if he gets selected for the neighbouring constituency of Brigg & Goole, where he is also a finalist, in the meantime. Brigg and Goole is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. ...

Details on the number of people who applied, the number of women among them and who would replace Percy should he be selected elsewhere are unknown at this time. The local Conservative Party did deselect a woman candidate before the 2005 election.

List of United Kingdom Parliament constituencies at AllExperts (976 words)
Constituency boundaries are subject to regular review by an independent Boundary Commission, usually once every 10 to 15 years, to keep the electorate of each constituency as close to the national average as is reasonably possible.
Today, constituencies in England are mostly subdivisions of administrative counties, with each constituency being comprised of a number of whole wards (for the purposes of the Boundary Commissions, unitary authorities, metropolitan boroughs and London boroughs are treated as separate administrative counties).
Most of the current constituency boundaries were last reviewed in the early 1990s, and are therefore based on administrative boundaries prior to the last series of local government boundary changes.
Parliament 2003, part 2, National Campaign for Firework Safety (12593 words)
My constituency has one of the pilot schemes for fixed penalty notices, and precisely none has been issued against people for throwing fireworks in the street, mainly because those people are under the age of 18 and fixed penalty notices cannot be given to people under that age.
As we have heard from many constituencies, it is the way in which fireworks are used by hooligans in communities and their availability throughout the year that cause the problems experienced by the public.
Recently, a constituent wrote to me to say that she had had to have her dog put down because it had bitten her child after it was distressed by a firework display.
