Though the population in the defined city limits of Cleveland remains low, the surrounding area in White County has experienced dramatic population growth in the last several years.
Thick traffic that does not abate between the morning and afternoon rush hours is one of the most visible indicators of this growth (although U.S. Highway 129's importance to this region also contributes to the steady traffic), along with an explosion in certain sectors of the economy often associated with suburbanization, such as fast food.
