Clinical pharmacology is studying pharmacology in relation to clinical science. It is a science which deals with the study of drugs in healthy volunteers and in patients. By its study the action and adverse affects of drugs can be compared. Pharmacology (in Greek: pharmacon (φάρμακον) is drug, and logos (λόγος) is science) is the study of how chemical substances interact with living systems. ... A drug is any substance that can be used to modify a chemical process or processes in the body, for example to treat an illness, relieve a symptom, enhance a performance or ability, or to alter states of mind. ... The Division of Clinical Pharmacology, located on the 7th floor of Wishard Hospital, is located within a rich and diverse research environment and one of the largest clinical environments in the country within the Indiana University Department of Medicine.
Clinical Pharmacology was originally established at the Lilly Laboratory for Clinical Research in 1970.
In 1986, the Division of Clinical Pharmacology was established within the Department of Medicine under the leadership of Craig Brater, M.D. At this juncture, the program became a joint effort that broadened the options for training pathways and research collaboration.
