Clinton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population was 50,149. Its name is in honor of the seventh Governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,839 km² (710 mi²). 1,800 km² (695 mi²) of it is land and 39 km² (15 mi²) of it (2.14%) is water. It includes the easternmost point in the state of Iowa, on the Mississippi River in Elk River township in the northeast section of the county.
