Clio is a city located in Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,483.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.1 km˛ (1.2 mi˛). 3.1 km˛ (1.2 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,483 people, 1,093 households, and 659 families residing in the city. The population density is 812.5/km˛ (2,109.8/mi˛). There are 1,205 housing units at an average density of 394.3/km˛ (1,023.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 95.49% White, 0.48% African American, 0.60% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 2.42% from two or more races. 2.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,093 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.3% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.7% are non-families. 32.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.88.


In the city the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 12.0% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.2 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $35,859, and the median income for a family is $42,155. Males have a median income of $37,109 versus $24,706 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,727. 7.9% of the population and 5.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.


Dining

If you happen to live close to Clio or plan to visit, a restaurant by the name of Silvio's Italian Restaurant is a wonderful place to eat. It is located on the north side of Vienna Road (M_57) just east of the railroad tracks and to the west of Clio Road.

Clio (pronounced "kl-eye-oh", despite what anyone not from Clio might tell you) is a small town nestled between the slightly large cities of Flint and Saginaw, Michigan.
Clio High School has also been called outstanding, but this has mostly been by the author of this article when realizing when he got to college how amazingly more prepared in calculus and chemistry he was than his fellow students.
Since the residents of Clio pronounce it "kl-eye-oh", however, this basis for the origin of the name is unlikely.
