Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. Clotho Buer, along with Shani Andras and Orga Sabnak, is one of the three "Living CPUs" assigned to operate the Earth Alliance's new Gundam mobile suits. As with his comrades, his personal data has been erased from the military's records. The talkative and quarrelsome Clotho is constantly arguing with his teammates, and he likes to shout out video game-inspired battle cries as he fights in his GAT-X370 Raider. Between missions he spends his time perfecting his shooting skills on a portable game system. Depending on the version of Gundam SEED seen, Clotho is killed during the Second Battle of Jachin Due either by Yzak Joule in the GAT-X102 Duel (original Gundam SEED), using the Buster's rifle or by Dearka Elsman in the GAT-X103 Buster (Gundam SEED: Special Edition). Trivia
- Whenever he's off-duty, Clotho can usually been seen playing a portable game system called the "Great Wonder Swan XXX." The WonderSwan is an actual Japanese portable game system, so it's possible that this is supposed to be some far-future version of that system (though the graphics don't look much better than those of the current WonderSwan; perhaps Clotho's system is an antique).
- Clotho's given name is perhaps derived from the name of Clotho, the Fate who spun the thread of life; his Japanese name, Crot, may simply be a mistranslation of this name. His surname may be derived from either the name of the demon Buer or the old name of Gelsenkirchen, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. [1]
- According to the PS2 game, Gundam Seed: Never Ending Tomorrow, Clotho is not killed by Dearka Elsman or Yzak Joule, but by his nervous system failing.
