Plot for Club SpongeBob

As Squidward is going to work, he hears SpongeBob and Patrick talking in a secret code. They refuse to tell him what they mean because he's not in their club. They also tell him that he can't get in, and that "you and your big nose would never fit in." Their clubhouse is sitting upon a giant stalk, and Squidward tries to get in. When SpongeBob and Patrick said he couldn't get in, they meant it literally. It's too small, so Squidward grabs another stalk by reaching out the window, and pulls himself down. At the bottom, the stalk snaps, and the clubhouse flies off into the kelp forest. Squidward starts panicking, while SpongeBob and Patrick stay calm and trust in the 'magic conch'. Squidward keeps telling them that it's a toy. It tells them to do nothing, so SpongeBob and Patrick just sit down and do nothing. Squidward has set up a camp, and says "What's going on at club shell-for-brains? As if the answer to all your problems will fall right of the sky! Fall right out of the sky!"

In a typical moment of cartoon humor, a Picnic Supplies plane is losing control, flying over the Kelp Forest. The pilot panics, saying that the plane is falling right out of the sky. As a result, the pilot drops the load i.e. food, a tent, benches, and a camp fire. Whilst SpongeBob and Patrick eat and sanctify their conch, Squidward, who realizes that he is the loser in the situation, tries to grovel his way back into the club. SpongeBob, ostensibly unaware that Squidward is apologizing purely out of selfishness, tells him that if you're once a member, you're always a member. Squidward's true intentions become clear when he mocks the conch, and when he is persuaded to ask the shell what he should eat, the conch tells him that he can't eat anything, perchance because he doesn't respect the club's property. Then, a forest ranger appears, who said his conch told him to go and look for the trio. His conch also says to do nothing. Squidward gives up all hope of survival and also does nothing.

Trivia/Goofs

  • This is the first episode to world premiere on DVD first, on the Nautical Nonsense/Sponge Buddies DVD. 117 days later, it premiered on TV.
  • When SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward land in the kelp forest, a breaking sound is heard. However, the clubhouse is still in one piece.
  • Also when they land, Patrick and SpongeBob are outside the clubhouse, even though Squidward was the only one who got out of it.
  • In later scenes, the clubhouse is not there.
  • When Squidward holds the conch and asks if he can have something to eat, he pulls the string. There is a close-up of the conch and when it says, "No," It is SpongeBob's hand holding it.
  • When the picnic supplies land, a tent comes down with it. They probably wouldn't need it because they were picnic supplies. Also they wouldn't need it because they still had the clubhouse and since Patrick had tools to build the coffins he could have built onto the clubhouse to make more room. However, this would exterminate the plot. It's also possible that Patrick built the coffins from the remains of the treehouse.
  • This is the fourth episode where the laws of science are defied and there is a fire underwater. The first three were "Patty Hype" "Life of Crime" and "Procrastination". However in "Life of Crime, Patrick says

  • Lord of the Flies is what the story is based off of. You can see several references in the episode including the conch from the actual story.
  • The giant plant that housed the club before it was flung into the Kelp Forest was never seen in any other episodes.
  • Many people call this episode 'Sponge Club' for short.
  • From this episode through episode 53 (except for episode 44), the closed captions are mistakenly ahead of time by two seconds.
  • This is the only such episode to have the caption copyright information between brackets ([ and ]), besides Squilliam Returns, which has the same thing at the end of that episode.
