For Democrats, an insurgent political reform agenda could help finally put to rest perceptions that they are the party of Washington, the party that is most estranged from the mainstream values that are so rarely honored in Washington.
Democrats should lead another charge for campaign finance reform, insisting on tough Federal Elections Commission enforcement of existing laws, along with a ban on fund raising and contributions by lobbyists.
Democrats have nothing to lose but their reputation for complicity in the abuses of the current system, and everything to gain -- including a political system that works for the country.
