Small coat was sketched by Đorđe Andrejević-Kun in 1931, and was officially adopted next year. In July, 2003, medium and large coats were adopted. These coats were made by Serbian heraldry society "Beli orao" (White eagle). Basic (small) coat is intended for broader public usage, and is the only one that may be used for commercial purposes. Medium coat is used by city administration, its organizations, and in manifestations of significance for Belgrade. Large coat is used for presenting the city of Belgrade, and only the top city officials may use it. Small coat has a shape of the shield, pointed at the bottom, and is consisted of three Serbian national colors (red, blue, white). Blue sky symbolizes hope and faith in better future. Red color of the ground is a symbol of the suffering of Serbian people in a struggle for freedom. Medium coat Medium coat is the same as the small one, but has a golden wall crown placed above the shield. Crown has five visible merlons, and a diadem with five gems (rubies, sapphires, emeralds). According to the standards of Serbian Heraldry Society, this wall crown with five indents belongs only to the capital city, and diadem with jewels belongs to the historical capitals.
Large coat Large coat is consisted of silver (white) bicephalic (two-headed) eagle, armed gold, with golden legs and tongue. Eagle is a symbol of Serbian state, and is consistent with coat of Serbia and Montenegro, and coat of Serbia. On the eagle's chest is the coat of Belgrade, which emphasize status of capital, and above the eagle's heads is the wall crown (see Medium coat section). Underneath the eagle are two oak branches, which represent civic virtues, and over their intersection is placed the first known coat of Belgrade, and it represent the heraldic history. Sword and olive branch on the large coat represent readiness for fight in the war, and cooperation in peace. Over the oak branches are situated decorations given to Belgrade, in their natural colors, and with appropriate ribbons. They stand for glorious past and merits of citizens of Belgrade. Medals are: - Legion of Honor, founded on May, 19. 1802, by Napoleon Bonaparte, and is given as fifth grade and is first medal of France. It was handed to Belgrade, by Franchet d'Espèrey, French marshal, and honorary duke of Serbian army. Only four cities outside France have received this medal (it is not given to the cities anymore): Belgrade, Liege, Luxembourg, and Stalingrad (because of famous Battle of Stalingrad). Belgrade is awarded with Legion of Honor because of glorious defense of Belgrade in WWI (1915.), when Major Dragutin Gavrilović addressed his famous speech to the defenders of Belgrade.
