Gameplay

The game features both side-scrolling and 3D gameplay, reflecting the two animation styles of the series.

In the real world, side-scrolling gameplay is used, resembling that used in traditional role-playing games. One screen is used to display a map while the player moves on the other. The player must walk and talk to other people, while collecting items, eventually leading to the Lyoko battles.

On Lyoko, gameplay consists of third-person fighting, utilizing the special abilities of each character to defeat monsters and solve puzzles. There are a total of 15 chapters, divided into various side-scrolling levels and 3D levels. The ultimate goal is to shut down the towers on Lyoko by helping Aelita get to them. Solving a short puzzle game is required to shut down towers. This is a list of monsters seen in the French animated television series Code Lyoko. ...

On Lyoko, each character has the powers they have in the show, though altered for gameplay reasons. Aelita is able to levitate over long distances, create a pink shield, and gains her energy attack near the end of the game. Odd has his trademark laser arrows and shield, along with new weapons, cat bombs and lasers, and can climb up certain surfaces with his claws. Ulrich has his sword and super-speed. Finally, Yumi can throw her fans and is telekinetic. Their special abilities can only be used at certain points marked by hovering symbols that identify which character it applies to. In addition, the special abilities use up the player's "Lyoko points", which when gone prevent the player from using special abilities. Players can receive "data bits" by defeating monsters, which are used to buy power-ups and combo-attacks.
