Estado Cojedes is one of the 23 states (estados) into which Venezuela is divided.


The state capital is San Carlos.


Cojedes State covers a total surface area of 14,800 km² and, in 1997, had an estimated population of 241,370.

Federal and state police are investigating the so-called "Grupo Exterminio," a vigilante "death squad" with apparent police ties that is accused of up to 100 killings between mid-2000 and September 2001 in the cities of Acarigua and Araure, Portuguesa state.
