Edward Weston was born in Highland Park, Illinois on March 24, 1886.
The young Weston met with quick success, and his photographs were already being exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute merely a year later, in 1903.
Brett and Cole Weston, as well as Brett's wife Dody Warren, were appointed to print 800 of what he considered his most important negatives under his supervision in the years 1955-56.

His sharp, stark, brilliantly printed images of sand dunes, nudes, vegetables, rock formations, trees, cacti, shells, water, and human faces are considered to be among the finest of 20th-century photographic works; their influence on modern art remains inestimable.
Weston made his last photographs at his beloved Point Lobos, Calif., during the decade from 1938 to 1948, the year he was stricken with Parkinson's disease.
His second son, Brett Weston, 1911–93, and his fourth son, Cole Weston, 1919–2003, were both photographers in their father's tradition.
