Coleriane Inst was founded in 1860, and is still on its original site just off the Castlerock Road. Enrollment peaked at 1,100 in the 1970s, but currently stands at around 700. It was originally a boarding school until the department closed in 1999.[1] The school's grounds run to the west bank of the River Bann, which facilitates a successful school rowing team.
