Colfax is a village located in Dunn County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,136. The village is located within the Town of Colfax.


Geography

Colfax is located at 44°59'55" North, 91°43'31" West (44.998812, -91.725511)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.7 km˛ (1.4 mi˛). 3.6 km˛ (1.4 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 2.11% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,136 people, 467 households, and 294 families residing in the village. The population density is 315.5/km˛ (817.0/mi˛). There are 488 housing units at an average density of 135.6/km˛ (351.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 98.59% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 1.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 467 households out of which 30.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% are non-families. 32.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.92.


In the village the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 23.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.2 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $31,118, and the median income for a family is $40,673. Males have a median income of $30,833 versus $21,741 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,040. 5.4% of the population and 2.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 15.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
