Encyclopedia > Colin Bibby

Dr. Colin J. Bibby (20 November 1948_7 August 2004) was an English ornithologist.

Having been on the RSPB's research staff since 1971, and from 1986, their Head of Conservation Science, he moved to BirdLife International in 1991, where he led their research team and a major research programme, with projects in over 70 countries. In 2001, he became a self- employed environmental consultant. He was also a member of the Rare Breeding Birds Panel.

In 1994, he was awarded the Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Environmental Sciences for his work with BirdLife International, and in June 2004 received the RSPB medal in recognition of his contribution to ornithology.

He learned that he had an incurable cancer in March 2004 and, within a few months, died in his sleep.
