Colin Hanton was a drummer for The Quarrymen - the band which would later become The Beatles. A drummer is a musician who plays the drums, particularly the drum kit, marching percussion, or hand drums. ... Colin was working as an apprentice upholsterer when he was asked to join the nascent band, largely because he had recently purchased a new drum kit. Many of the band's early practice sessions took place in Hanton's father's house. He left the Quarrymen after an argument with the rest of the band following a disastrous performance in Wavertree in early 1959. Eric Griffith, a guitarist in the Quarry Men, came to Hanton's house to ask if he was interested in drumming in the Quarry Men, although Hanton, unlike several of the other guys in the band, didn't go to the Quarry Bank High School for Boys.
Hanton was not involved in the Quarry Men reunion recording Open for Engagements [+] in 1994, but did play with ex-Quarry Men Rod Davis [+], Len Garry [+], Pete Shotton [+], and Eric Griffiths [+] on the 40th anniversary of the Quarry Men gig at which John Lennon [+] and Paul McCartney [+] first met.

Colin Hanton, on a drumkit provided by the venue after his insurance company refused to cover use of his now priceless original one, held the lively skiffle beat.
Colin Hanton was then spotlighted with the McCartney-Harrison number "In Spite of All The Danger," which appears on "The Beatles: Anthology 1" with Colin on drums.
Colin made a point of correction about this recording, which he states was made directly to vinyl, not taped first as long held, because John Lennon balked at paying the one pound extra for the taping.
