He was a contemporary of Brian Aldiss and James White. He is most famous for his stories about the Unorthodox Engineers. His 1984 short story "Something in the City" was eerily prescient about the current situation faced by the US military in Iraq. In this story, soldiers occupying a Middle Eastern country after overthrowing a dictator are being picked off by booby traps (similar to IED's) controlled by an artificial intelligence left behind by the defeated dictator. Brian Wilson Aldiss (born August 18, 1925 in East Dereham, Norfolk) is a prolific English author of both general fiction and science fiction. ...
