College Springs is a city located in Page County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 246.


Geography

College Springs is located at 40°37'15" North, 95°7'19" West (40.620878, _95.121941)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.9 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 2.9 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 246 people, 90 households, and 72 families residing in the city. The population density is 85.6/km˛ (221.6/mi˛). There are 95 housing units at an average density of 33.0/km˛ (85.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 99.19% White, 0.00% African American, 0.81% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 90 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.0% are married couples living together, 6.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.07.


In the city the population is spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.2% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 103.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.9 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $38,500, and the median income for a family is $37,750. Males have a median income of $27,375 versus $19,250 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,102. 4.3% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.1% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

We caught this multi-vortex tornado by College Springs, IA at ~ 6:40pm.
I was aware that the storm had gone through a split right before we left, and we encountered the northern split as we went south on I-29.
As we approached College Springs, IA, the low-level rotation began to intensify even more, taking on a skewed horseshoe shape with an area of agitated cloud tags in the middle.
