Colorado Springs Sky Sox were originally an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox (which is where the team name comes from) and played in the Class A Western Baseball League from 1950-1958. The Western League folded after the 1958 season and the Pikes Peak region was without professional baseball until 1987 when the Hawaii Islanders of the Pacific Coast League relocated to Colorado Springs and became the second incarnation of the Sky Sox. From 1987-1992 the Sky Sox were the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. When Colorado was awarded a Major League franchise, the new Rockies arranged for the Sky Sox to become their AAA affiliate.
