FACTOID #53: If you thought Antarctica was inhospitable, think again - its land area is only ninety-eight percent ice. Reassuringly, the other 2% is categorised as "barren rock".
Comets on Fire are an amazing shoegazer/stoner rock band with a fiery edge. A lot of spazzy, chill-out parts fused with many a rockin' part abound on their opus, "Blue Cathedral". Their earlier "self-titled" is pretty good too. More abrasive and unpolished, though. For fans of early led Zepplin, newer growing. Just pick it up and give it a few listens. Surprised me how good this was.
Comets on Fire say bollocks to the rock 'n' roll myth as vehemently as they retell it.
Comets on Fire wear their influences on their sleeves but still keep things completely fresh.
Their sound previously evoked chaos and destruction, but on Blue Cathedral, Comets on Fire stomp on the notion that they are a one-trick pony, creating a masterwork that music fans will be listening to for some time in the future.
COF employ flaming walls of feedback, sloppy drumming and a festish for 69`s-era sci-fi effects.
"Comets On Fire owes a Sahara-sized debt to the heaviness of Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath and Hawkwind.....the band is free to up the wattage and reverb, coating heavy rock`s wriggling remains in the sludge...it`s the album`s blood soaked six string stench that makes "Blue Cathedral" a minor masterpiece."-Magnet.
t may have taken Comets On Fire three albums to pull all the parts together - something that was very common with acts that developed over time in the 1960s and `70s but is almost unheard of today - but with Blue Cathedral, they`ve realized that there are no boundaries and no limits.
