Encyclopedia > Commentators

A commentator is an individual who comments on sports, politics, current events, or public issues; synonyms include pundit. Commentation may be presented on television, accompanied by relevant images, or on radio. The technique involved is different between the two media, with radio broadcasters needing to be more descriptive because of the absence of pictures.

Sports commentators usual broadcast live during the sporting events that they are describing and have to be careful to avoid gaffes. Famous examples include:

  • "'For those of you watching in black and white, the blue is behind the pink" – snooker commentator Ted Lowe
  • "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again." Football manager Terry Venables
  • "One of the reasons Arnold Palmer is playing so well is that, before each tee shot, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them.... Oh my God, what have I just said?" – USTV golf commentator Sandi

How to Write Doc Comments for the Javadoc Tool (8075 words)
API spec bugs are bugs that are present in the method declaration or in the doc comment that affects the syntax or semantics.
If the doc comments are an API specification for re-implementors, and not simply a guide for developers, they should be written either by the programmer who designed and implemented the API, or by a API writer who is or has become a subject matter expert.
To sum up, the primary purpose of the package doc comment is to describe the purpose of the package, the conceptual framework necessary to understand and to use it, and the relationships among the classes that comprise it.
Comments (4884 words)
Comments normally writes each field (each variable and value, separated by an equals sign) on its own line, but you can change the field terminator to something other than CRLF if you want.
Comments now defaults to keeping its output files in a new location, so your operation might not be the same as before.
If Comments appears to be set up correctly when you run it from the command line, but can't find the SMTP host, or thinks it's not registered, or has other problems when you run it as a CGI program, then you have a permissions problem in the system registry.
